Tap water situation
In Chile, tap water is generally considered safe to drink in most urban areas as the country has a well-developed water treatment and sanitation system. However, water quality can vary significantly by region, especially between urban and rural areas. In remote regions, it might be advisable to drink bottled or filtered water as a precaution. The responsibility for water quality is overseen by the Superintendencia de Servicios Sanitarios (SISS), the national regulatory agency for sanitation services in Chile. They ensure that water treatment standards meet the health regulations and that the supply is safe for consumption.
