Tap water situation
In Cameroon, the safety of drinking tap water is a significant concern. Tap water is not considered safe to drink in most parts of the country, and it is advised to use bottled or adequately treated water for drinking and cooking purposes. The quality of water can vary greatly between urban and rural areas, with urban areas generally having better water infrastructure. The government body responsible for overseeing water quality at a national level in Cameroon is the Ministry of Water and Energy. They are tasked with ensuring the provision of potable water to the population, but challenges remain with infrastructure and water quality management, especially in rural regions.
